Health & Safety Training

Local 445 is one of only a few locals to be able to provide an IBT sponsored Health and Safety training program for our members.  Contact our trainer, Mike Muller, to sign up for any of these trainings. Currently, we are able to provide training in:

• Hazwaste Worker (Hazwoper)

• Hazmat Transportation Security & Awareness

• OSHA 10 Hour Construction Safety

• OSHA PIT (forklift) Safety

Leadership Institute

The Local 445 Leadership Institute provides workshops for Shop Stewards and active members to prepare them for their roles as worksite leaders.  Check our upcoming Events on the left and our Calendar for workshop schedules and contact Norelis Santiago to register. The following workshops are provided:

Shop Steward Workshop 101- Learn the basics of issue/grievance resolutions, information gathering, filling out a grievance form, and upholding your union contract.

Shop Steward Workshop 102- Prerequisite: Successful completion of Shop Steward Workshop 101 and 6 months of being a Shop Steward. Shop stewards will learn and practice advanced grievance handling, preparing for arbitration, and internal organizing skills to help them represent and defend their co-workers.

Organizing 101- Learn the Teamster organizing model and become proficient in working on an organizing campaign to grow the union.

Political Action- Learn basic principles and strategies for developing and implementing a political action plan for anything from local community boards to presidential elections.

US Labor History- Learn the rich history of the US labor movement. Develop respect, pride and motivation from those who toiled and died to give us the rights and dignity we have today.

Internal Organizing- How to organize your coworkers to become more united, resolve worksite issues, and become more active in the union.

Member Organizers - an intensive training for those stewards and active members who would like to become Volunteer Organizers. Volunteer Organizers work closely with Local 445 staff to organize new workers into our local. 

Worker Advancement Training

Under the leadership of Secretary Treasurer Dan Maldonado we are in the process of immensely expanding the training provided by Local 445.  Our immediate goal is to provide CDL class A and B training for our members and community.  Our long-term goal is to build an entire training facility and start the East Coast Apprenticeship program.
